My company has two major projects going on at PG Metro Center; Hyattsville is regarded as a rather dangerous place, especially after dark. PG Plaza and surrounding scary neighborhoods do nothing for this image. However, there's the University Park neighborhood across one of the streets, and it looks like Roland Park writ small and is full of UMd profs and their families (witness the large number of "War is not the Answer" signs in windows of small $300k+ homes).
I bet the community members pushing for the change are UPers.
