Taxicab Meters are Coming

The Washington Post reports that D.C. is finally trying to get rid of the zone system for taxicabs and to replace it with a meter system. If it actually passes, this will be a major boom for the city -- or at least my wallet, so I can stop paying $7.90 for a mile and half cab ride to my office in the morning.

I hope the meters are purchased by the corporate cab companies and not by individual drivers. I would hate to see hard working drivers throw away money on equipment that will be replaced during the growth of a new system.
The new system allows drivers to keep ALL revenues, will reduce expenses by half, and lowers insurance premiums below any offered by any other cab system. The system also GUARANTEES reliable service to the customers.
Unfortunately for some, the new system ELIMINATES taxicab companies and reduces the need for any government involvement.
