Sounds of the City
Overheard on the corner of 15th and L NW:
"Democrats walk everywhere. They walk to work; Democrats will walk a half-hour to go to work."

I take the train. I used to walk, but changed jobs so work is too far away to walk.
I guess the opposite of that is that a Republican will drive an SUV to work, if work is more than a block away.

Or less than a block away, even. I had neighbors when I was living in Tenleytown. They were oooohhhh-so-Republicans. And every Sunday, without fail, they would pile into the family Town Car (this was in pre-suv days) and drive the approximately 50 meters to church. Dad would drop Mom, daughter, son, and occasionally grandma (who was only about 60, and in perfectly good shape) at the door, and then park in the lot, another thirty feet on the other side of the church, and walk back to the entrance.
Reverse to go home.
They probably have four or five SUV's by now.
