Smile! A Hummer in Houston is paying for your bus
Thanks to its large and popular mass transit system, the DC-MD-VA region is getting $1.39 back for every $1 we pay in gas taxes.

And my native Killeen-Temple, TX only gets back 40 cents on the dollar, the lowest in Texas, which loses money overall. Sigh.

Trust me, your Temple/Killeen area more than makes up for federal dollars thanks to being so close to Ft. Hood.

That we do. When Ft Hood was going to lose a division a few years back, the whole region panicked. When we later learned that it was going to be replaced by an even larger one from Ft Polk, the region rejoiced.
If, for some reason, Ft Hood were ever shut, our area would shortly resemble the saddest parts of the Rust Belt.
I wonder what work has been done on the economic and social impacts of military bases on the south. Anyone?
