Metro escalator construction completion pool

So one of the two escalators serving the entrance I use to exit the Metro near my office is undergoing repairs, meaning the crush of people who use it in the morning have to walk up the remaining escalator and stand to the side, creating a huge backup, if someone wants to go down. Despite the fact that I've never seen anone actually working on it, a sign says the repairs will be completed by May 10.

Bullplop.

It won't be ready by the 10th, that's for sure, but when will it be done? Enter your guess in the comments and the person whose guess is closest to the datw when the thing starts running again wins a beer on me.

My bet is that it isn't running before June 10th. July 10th at the latest.

May 29th.

Hmmm... since they've been so bold as to give a specific date and not just the month (like they did at Ft. Totten), I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say May 24.

They got ours at Silver Spring done on the day promised, surprisingly, but I think that might have been minor. I didn't see any removed steps.

To counter that, though, if one escalator is going to be merely stopped, they are prone to run the working one down in the mornings (as everyone in the neighborhood is scampering to get to the trains) and up in the evenings. Why not just always run it up?

May 20

They won't let it run up because there is always somebody who will go down in the morning. It may be 100-1 up, but there's always someone.

Can I entertain a guess as to when it will be out of service again? August 14.

Basically, the lone working escalator is always run in the direction least convenient to people who actually live at the Silver Spring stop. Maybe if we pretend Silver Spring is a place people want to visit to spend money...

Aah, a fellow Judiciary Square man... Earlier this week, I saw someone get on the stopped escalator and just stand there. It took her a second or two to realize that the escalator wasn't running before she glanced around quickly and started climbing. It's not a long escalator; it's silly that the centre between the two escalators wasn't made a staircase, instead of just that long, studded metal sheet. Anyway, I'll give it May 14. In the afternoon.

Yeah, we all be kickin' it down on the broken esclataor at the J-Squizzle. Fo shizzle.

The masking tape sign now says May 15th, so we're probably looking at Memorial Day by the earliest.
