Everybody likes free stuff

Thanks to Bluestate, you can stop complaining about how D.C. compares to New York City and actually go there, if only for a weekend. We've got a contest with Verve (the label, not the pipe) for a free weekend in the Big Apple and tickets to see Brazilian Girls.

And just in case you don't win, come to the Black Cat this Saturday night for your favorite LES-Billyburg hipster trash dance music mixed lovingly with britpop, mashups, covers et al.

(Please commence comment wars on the relative merits of both cities and how, by dissing Washington, I am a snobby elitist.)

You're not a snobby elitist: you're absolutly right. DC is NOT Williamsburg, nor do most of us want it to be. Personally, I can only stand so many leather wristbands before I lash out at someone.

And I hope to God that every hipster fucktard on the East Coast reads your entry, realizes this crucial fact, and stays the fuck away.

So does that mean you're not coming to Bluestate?

No, no, I'm not. But not out of anti-hipster-music spite -- I enjoy the music, just not the people I find listening to it; hence my desire for less of them in our fair city.

But, if I were to let someone else's presence get in the way of my musical experience, then I'd be no better than they, who complain about how "the music's not the same since they got found out". So, it's not my anti-scenester fervor that's keeping me away either.

It's just that I have to work on Friday night. Someone has to keep the drunks off the tables. One of our bartenders loves Black Cat, though -- he might be there, and if so, I'm sure I'll get a full report on Sunday.

I for one, am glad DC doesn't have a Fischerspooner.
