Nats Hats - Rats!

In general, I've been positively surprised by the Nationals. After a few months in town, they're a winning team that seems to have the support of a good number of residents, as shown by the proliferation of Nats hats and shirts around town. However, the Times points out a quandary I've faced personally:

"As if the feud over ownership is not enough, the Nationals appear to have created a sartorial quandary for some. Certain Democrats, it seems, feel queasy about wearing the team's signature "W" caps, which evoke a certain former part-owner of the Texas Rangers.

Not to mention that the caps the team wears at home games are red - as in red state.

"I like the blue 'D.C.' logo better," Mr. Carville said, though he insisted his objection had more to do with style than with politics."

It's true - I don't want a big "W" on my head, and neither do all the Washingtonians who went out of their way to get the "DC" spring training hats, which are harder to find.

The solution: we should be allowed to vote. At every game, Nats fans should get a ballot on which they can tell the team whether they want the nickname of a man who pulled 9 percent in the team's hometown, or something a little less politically-charged.

The other weekend, the Miller Lite girls were giving out blue golf visors with the "DC" on the front. So if you do enough bar hopping, you might get your wish.

I am sure in 15 years, when you look back at this entry, you'll still find it frighteningly revelant.

Only idiot douchebags would think that a baseball hat with a big W on it would indicate support for a president or his policies when a baseball team in the same town, mind you, is called Washington.

No, it's not the most important issue in the world, or even for the team (the sucky name would come tops) - but you can't deny that Bush's nickname and those awful "W - the president" stckers are two of the main reasons why the spring training caps are selling so well. Besides, do all of my posts have to hold up for 15 years? I'm sure there will be different stuff in Smash's New Arrivals bin by then.

The SECOND I saw the "W" hat, I made an unfortunate POTUS association and I hated it. The DC symbol is cooler anyway. It is on the clock in center field.

Another crappy thing about the association is that Dub goes out of his way to pretend that he doesn't live here.

I know. When the gangs of Republican toughs that roam the streets of Adams Morgan and Dupont Circle laugh and point at my W hat, I just want curl into a ball and listen to Ted Leo, too. The DC hat spares me such indignities.

I wouldn't say W goes out of his way to pretend he doesn't live here, but when 9 out of 10 of the residents of a city voted for the other guy, he knows where he's not wanted. In addition, if he did "hang" in DC, I am sure that would piss you off as well. The guy can't win, so why try?

Hey Chris, don't forget about us (temporarily) transplanted Washingtonians. The good people of Miami will most assuredly associate a "W" on a hat as a big seal of approval for Mr. Bush and his policies. Outside of the northeast, you see, there are entire cities full of idiot douchebags.
Speaking of hats and Miami, there is another problem. I can't wear my DC hat until November or so, due to the fact that it is woolen. There must be some solution! RJ, think of something.
